Enjoy working with kids? The behavioral technician position is as rewarding as it is fun! As a behavior technician, you will be responsible for the direct Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy of a child with developmental disabilities. While working with kids ages 2-18, you will use play to build social and leisure skills, help develop expressive communication, understanding of language, self-help skills, and decrease maladaptive behaviors.

A Behavior Treatment Technician is a paraprofessional who works one-on-one with people receiving Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy to implement their intervention plans. In this position you get to play and have fun working with kids while making a difference in their and their family's lives!

ABA therapy relies on systematic manipulations of the environment to modify behavior. Often, ABC’s of behavior are analyzed -Antecedent (the stimulus preceding the behavior), Behavior, and Consequence (the behavior’s positive or negative result)—to determine influential factors affecting behavior. As an Technician, you will be using ABA intervention strategies with students. You will witness firsthand the often dramatic difference ABA strategies can make for children with physical and intellectual disabilities.
  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma/GED
  • Bachelor's Degree in a human services or related field (psychology, sociology, early childhood development, etc.), preferred, but not required.
  • Registered Behavior Technician certification, preferred, but not required.
  • Undergo a background check at the time of application.
  • Ability to work 1:1 with children ages 2-18 with disabilities.
  • Ability and willingness to work through challenging behaviors.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, and spend time on your feet, as well as an ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Sensitivity to working with an ethnically, linguistically, culturally, and economically diverse population of children and families.
  • Demonstrate creativity to provide support and achieve positive outcomes for all clients.
  • Reliable transportation, driver's license, insurance, and cellular telephone.
  • Willingness to travel to multiple locations throughout the work day as needed.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and interpersonal skills.
  • Work with integrity and maintain strict confidentiality/HIPPA guidelines.
  • Must be available weekday evenings and some weekends.
  • A positive attitude and willingness to take direction from senior staff members.

The Technician’s Specific Responsibilities

  • First, have fun, play with kids, make a difference in their and their families lives!
  • Conduct direct therapy sessions with children ages 2-18 with autism or related disabilities.
  • Find creative ways to play, build rapport, and interject learning opportunities within play frequently.
  • Collect data about students’ behaviors through direct observation.
  • Assist BCBAs as directed with behavior reduction assessments and skill acquisition plans.
  • Teaching students the specific behavior skills per their treatment plan.
  • Nurture students’ social skills.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with parents and supervisors.
  • Write session notes that accurately portray progress and barriers toward treatment goals.
